My name is Taylor Andry, and I am a Junior double majoring in accounting and MIS. After finishing high school in Tennessee, I had a very detailed idea of what my college experience was going to be like. I was planning on graduating a year early, and then moving back to my hometown and starting my career there. I figured I’d probably make one or two friends at UA, find a temporary church to go to until I graduated, and then once I got my degree my life would "start". I had outlined every semester and felt like I had everything in place just the way it was supposed to work.
After my freshman year, I gained a newfound interest in traveling, coding, and decided to add a double major instead of graduating early. On top of all my new interests and passions that were revealed, I also found so many close friends that I now consider family!
So, like most of my plans, the detailed experience I had planned wasn’t in God’s intentions for me. In the end, you don’t want to rush your college experience because you only get one. Looking back, I’m glad that God knows what’s best regardless of what we want. God can show you so much in the coming semesters, but you can’t be looking at the horizon if you want to see what he’s working on now.
“For I know the plans I have for you- this is the Lord’s declaration – plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
If you are reading this and, like me, think you have the next four years completely planned out I want to encourage you to be open to changing those plans. Stop thinking of college as a stepping stone and know that this period of your life can be used for tremendous personal and spiritual growth.
