More than a Campus Organization

My name is Micah Parker. I am a Senior in the Accelerated Master’s Program studying Finance. The Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) has been extremely instrumental in my life here at The University of Alabama.

Thriving in college requires community. Here at the BCM, I was able to find that community early on as I looked for a local church. That community helped me stay rooted in my faith, but it also helped me enjoy the college experience by providing me with friends that had similar interests. As I developed community and plugged into a church that I love, the BCM began to offer something different in my life. It offered an avenue to serve and reach others. The BCM offered opportunities for me to reach lost students on campus and leadership opportunities to invest in the lives of other students at the BCM. The BCM is so much more than just a campus organization. It is an amazing collection of people that aim to love God, love others, and love the campus well.

To close, I want to share with you one of my favorite BCM memories and a verse I have had on my heart recently. It was my sophomore year barn dance. We had square dancing, hot cocoa, and amazing people all together laughing and enjoying time spent with one another. I was able to make those around me laugh at my unbelievably amazing dance skills while I twirled my partner around. I want to encourage those who are reading this to come to check the BCM out in the fall semester. "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us." Romans 5:1-5 I look forward to meeting you! Roll Tide!
