So how did I transition from high school to college? The shortest answer is slowly.
The truth is, I came from a small, rural high school and decided to go to a major university that I could drive to from home (I only live about 45 minutes away). I wanted to save money living at home during my undergrad.
I decided in the spring of my 10th grade year to begin Early College at UA. Academically, this was absolutely essential to prepare me for the rigor of university studies. I took several classes before I ever set foot on campus.
I say my transition went slowly because I believe, in some ways, I am still transitioning to college life. I believe huge life changes can often be overwhelming if they are not taken one day at a time.
“Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the Earth.” // Colossians 3:2
This verse has always spoken volumes to me. That what whatever we do is ultimately for the Kingdom of God. To make a major transition in our lives, we need a support system.
For me personally, I have found my support in my family, my high school friends, and my friends from the BCM. College is hard. Some people will make it look easy or simple, but it’s not.
I have learned to trust God in everything, and that, if something is not His will, He is still good.
College is a great period in our lives as emerging adults growing into the people we want to be. It is important to cling to God; He is our only constant.
I wish coming into college that I would not have been so hard on myself. I wish I would have gone to the libraries my first semester. I wish I would have boldly told people about Jesus my first semester.
We cannot change the past, but we can always learn from it. Show others God’s love each and every day, and all of your transitions will be, not easy, but better. I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that everything happens for a reason, to further our testimonies so that we can help others through similar situations.
